Google says it didn't disclose the issue because it couldn't find any evidence of misuse...and also because it couldn't identify the users potentially affected.
But the WSJ reported that something else was at play here (hint: it rhymes with "space cook"). An internal document reportedly said that revealing the bug would result "in [Google] coming into the spotlight alongside or instead of Facebook" à la Cambridge Analytica.
Reality check: Google itself admitted Google+ "has not achieved broad consumer or developer adoption" and that "90 percent of Google+ user sessions are less than five seconds."
